At some point or the other, all of us have felt exasperated by the number of marketing emails that flood our mailboxes everyday. Each of these emails is trying to sell something or the other and eventually finds its way to the trash box. Most of us think that unwanted emails are SPAMs and do not really care what the actual definition of SPAM is. I am not trying to demoralize you. These are just plain facts. The only way to avoid being treated as a spammer is to send emails to recipients who have already authorized you to send them emails. I am talking about opt-in email marketing here.

An opt in list is an email address of people who genuinely signed up to receive promotional offers and newsletters that you offer. These kinds of prospects are more effective than buying mail lists, because it is really very expensive. But still if you choose to opt for a mailing list, it's better to invest a little amount in optimizing your website for search engines and creating some attractive newsletters frequently.

The simplest way of creating an opt-in list is to make the visitor of your website to sign up for receiving email on special offers and newsletters. If you make a sale on the website you can give the choice to the customer whether to receive emails on promotional offers. By doing this you will be excited to see how many of them would opt to say yes.

Your opt in email list will thus continue to grow with time. If you purchase an email list from the market, you will end up sending emails to the same recipients over and over again unless of course you have a lot of money and are ready to buy updated marketing email lists every year.

For extracting the best results out of your opt-in list, you must position your emails smartly. If you are mailing a newsletter, it is imperative that you do not overload it with promotional content. In the long run, it always pays to create a good brand identity for your product. Taking the help of branding experts will be wise unless you are an expert yourself. In case you are sending promotional offers, the content of the emails should be well designed and crisp.

Remember, branding is all about creating a positive image and gaining people's trust. In business as well as in all other things in life, your credibility is what is going to decide whether you will emerge a winner. Many great organizations have reaped huge benefits by investing in integrity as they realized that integrity is what is going to earn them credibility in the market. While most of the businesses make the mistake of focusing on new customers, they do not realize that it is always easier to sell to old or existing customers. Someone who has already bought once from you is more likely to trust you enough to buy from you again.
