There are so many trees being cut now days. It is not a very healthy activity to carry out but sometimes it is something of a necessity to remove a tree. Trees are usually chopped down from land being cleared for some form of construction, for use in fire wood, paper-making or furniture making etc or sometimes when it is standing uselessly in some ones garden or the backyard. People easily cut off the top part and almost all part of the trunk but leave out the stump in the end as it is very difficult to remove it from the ground completely. Professional workers take care of it easily but for those who do not have the power or the tools for this work leave it around as it is presenting a not so good sight.
To get rid of a tree stump there are four basic methods. First is and the most used method is to chemically remove the stump. For this a chemical consisting of the compound potassium nitrate is used to decompose the stump and then separate it from the ground. The process requires drilling holes along the diameter of the stump and then filling them with a concentrate made up by mixing water and the chemical together. The concentrate is left in there for several weeks until it has totally decomposed the stump making it soft and squashy. After this an axe is simply used to remove it from the ground.
The second method is to remove the stump by hand. This method is adopted by people who have a lot of strength to spare. A trench kind of a hole is dug around the perimeter of the stump cutting and clearing out any long grown roots. The trench needs to be as deep as the roots go beneath the surface of the earth. Once this has been done and the stump along with the roots loosens enough to be moved, it is cleanly pulled out and thrown away.
Next comes the natural way of dealing with the stump. Here the stump is let to rot on its own over some period of time by covering it with fertilizers or soil to speed up the process for the fungus to petrify the leftover trunk and roots. When it has completely decayed it is easily cut down and cleared away. This process however, takes some time and is only good for trees that have trunks with medium or small sized trunks.
The last method is to use a tree stump grinder to mechanically remove the stump. This is a tool, which, as the name suggests, grinds away the stump. Before using it, one is required to cut the stump as close to the ground as possible and then clear away all the rocks, pebbles and debris from around the nearby are. The grinder is then used to chip away the rest of the left over stump by chipping away three inch sections of the wood with the help of a circular toothed blade.
