Many people say that the best way to keep your computer safe from viruses is to not connect to the Internet. However, in modern times, this may be quite a difficult task as many people use the Internet for work and not just entertainment. In this case you will always need antivirus protection, but many of these software suites are quite pricy.

Thankfully there are many free antivirus tools for those of you who just can’t afford to spent money on a proper antivirus software suite. Modern viruses can cause a lot of harm to a user, so you must make sure to always protect the information stored on your computer.

1. Find some free tools which can remove viruses.

Most of the big antivirus companies release special tools which can clean your system from most malicious programs. However, these programs can hardly be compared with installed antivirus programs, but they are still a good choice if you can’t afford a normal antivirus software suite. The Symantec Virus Removal Tool, Malicious Software Removal Tool and the McAfee Avert Stinger are just some of the good and free virus removal tools.

2. Install many free antivirus programs.

3. Find a good free antivirus application. Avast and Avira are two of the best.

4. Anti spyware applications are also good as they can remove some malicious programs as well. Spyware Doctor is a reasonable choice as it provides good protection and is in the same time free.

5. A firewall can also be helpful. Zone Alarm is free and better than the default Windows Firewall.

6. Use a safe browser like Firefox or Chrome.

If you tend to download many files from the Internet, then you should make sure to install a phishing and fraud filter. However, it all of the free antivirus programs can’t be compared to a paid antivirus software suite as it can offer much better protection, besides most of the antivirus packages aren’t so expensive. Many viruses disrupt the work of your antivirus software and may render it unable to cure the infection in time. So make sure to weekly scan your computer for threats.

Constant vigilance is the best way to protect your system on 100%. Regularly updated your software and download all available patches so that you can be invulnerable to the newest viruses.

Regularly back up all of your important data as you might loose it if your system gets infected. This is recommended even if you have a paid antivirus software suite, because you never know what might happen.
