Is winter playing spoilt sport to your entertainment plans? Thinking of a romantic dinner with your loved one in the patio, but worried about those chilly winter nights? Patio heaters and fire pits will keep you warm and cozy, once the temperature drops. Invest in a barbecue and you can even have a winter barbecue party. There are many styles and options available, however if you plan to move your heaters around, do invest in one which is light and portable.

While Patio Heaters are available in propane, electric and natural gas, Fire Pit would typically need either charcoal or logs. The natural gas and propane ones would save energy, but if you are worried about your kids or guests knocking it down, then electric is a safer bet.

However, if you are one of those who likes to make the most of his money’s worth, then fire-pits are what you should consider. Most fire-pits (either built in or readily available) can easily be transformed into a barbecue pit. Available in different sizes and shapes they are mostly made from copper, stainless steel or cast iron.

Wherever there is fire or gas, safety is always a concern. To enjoy those added months out on the deck, do remember to take some simple precautionary steps:

1. Put some signs around your heaters to ensure no one leans on them

2. These are meant to heat your patio, please do not use them to dry your clothes

3. Ensure that flammable objects are nowhere close to it

4. Do not use the outdoor heater to heat the indoor areas

5. Ensure that kids keep a safe distance

6. Do not leave the fire unattended

7. If there are gusts of wind, it might be a good idea not to use it, lest it topples over

8. Cooking on Barbecues is fun and exciting, however remember to clean it regularly as grease can cause flare ups.

Don’t let the above tips bog you down. Once you start using the heater/pit to warm up your deck, it will be worth the effort.
