Police are calling a fast-food worker a hero for saving a little girl from a possible abduction.

Serenity LaChapelle was working at a McDonalds on Plum Street in Olympia when she protected a girl from being abducted by a stranger.

LaChapelle approached Richard Knauss when she saw him grabbing an 8-year-old girl.

“First, he was like I know you and she was like I don’t know you and she looked at me and said I don’t know him, I don’t know him,” LaChapelle said. “He kept touching her and pulling on her shirt and I was like you need to keep your hands off of her and he didn’t. He kept touching her and stuff…I was like keep your hands off of her and I grabbed the little girl and pulled her over the counter.”

LaChapelle also protected the girl’s young brother.

The kids were in the restaurant waiting for their mom who was stuck in the snow.

Knauss, 46, was caught a short time after the incident and is facing a kidnapping charge.

Police said he had four alcohol-related arrest warrants when he was caught.
