A former nurse assistant pleaded guilty Monday to charges he sexually assaulted a 93-year-old nursing home patient.
Steven Laroche, 69, of Brockton, pleaded guilty to indecent assault and battery on an elderly person. He was sentenced to two years in the House of Corrections, with the sentence suspended for a probationary period of two years. He must wear a GPS monitoring bracelet during his probation and he must register as a sex offender.
An investigation by the attorney general’s office began after the matter was referred by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Laroche, a former CNA at St. Joseph’s Manor Nursing Home in Brockton, was responsible for the care of a 93-year-old resident diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and dementia, Attorney General Martha Coakley's office said.
Another worker reported walking into the resident's room and observing what appeared to be Laroche sexually assaulting the patient, Coakley's office said.
A physical examination of the victim revealed evidence of a sexual assault, Coakley's office said.
