Just when you feel energetic and ecstatic at the end of chill winter and spring climatic conditions and the onset of the summer, you are faced with problems by summer pests. Who are they? They are none other than the much common wood eating pest termites that eat away your peace of mind. Adding to the expenses of repairing or replacing a damaged door or walls, you have to be cautious enough to deal with damaging termite swarms that linger around especially in characteristic warm conditions developed during summers. Their biological modes are turned on during the summer more than in any other season. This is because the warm temperature is favorable for the various processes in the life cycle of the termites.

The termites undergo necessary physical and behavioral changes that results in proliferative breeding towards the onset of summer and throughout the season. Colony forming is best executed during the warm days of summer. Although the required temperature and time for breeding varies amongst the various species of these wood eating pests, the commonly found species of termites otherwise known as the subterranean termites, find the hot and humid conditions favorable to reproduce and set and on a mission of successful wood destruction. They need high humid conditions to survive in their tunnels. The moisture that result out of a humid climate helps replenish the subterranean termite body that otherwise has a tendency of instant drying.

You either have a problem of breeding termites in warm and moist summers or the expansion of existing colonies at higher rates with rising temperatures. When forming a new colony, termites start reproducing with initial two reproducing individuals and gradually build up a colony over several years after the pests reach a certain size. This further helps in forming adult pairs. Consequently, it either aids in expanding the colony or initiating a new colony altogether. However, any new colonies formed are probably killed when winter sets in due to intolerance to extreme cold conditions and substantial decrease in moisture and humidity. Also, it is in the summers that many behavioral changes effect in allowing the flights to happen. Disperse flights are best achieved during the warmer weathers thus increasing the spread of the termites to a wider area.

Another species of termites that swarm during summer along with the subterranean termites are the drywood termites. They usually swarm during the late summer. However, they are much smaller in size than the subterranean termites. So, it is advisable to take necessary pest control precautions and get the right termite information through various online or offline resources beforehand to be prepared for termite control.
