A Bridgewater man is facing charges for allegedly dragging a state trooper during a routine traffic stop.

Authorities said Richard Swanson, 21, is scheduled to be arraigned in Taunton District Court on Monday.

Police said an SUV driven by Swanson was pulled over at about 6 p.m. on Friday on Weir Street in Taunton.

A state police spokesman said when a trooper approached the vehicle's window, the driver hit the gas and took off. The trooper had to grab onto the window and was dragged before letting go.

Swanson was arrested Saturday after police traced his license plate number.

He faces a variety of charges including operating to endanger and assault and battery on a police officer.
