Every expectant mother wants to be assured that her baby is doing well in the womb. One of the best inventions over that last few decades is the baby fetal monitor that can be used at home.

These monitors allow the mother, and family members, to listen to the baby’s heart beat to see if there’s anything wrong. These monitors have been used for years to help expectant mothers, especially first time mothers, keep track of the baby’s health. It saves money on doctor visits, too.

The fetal monitor is a type of ultrasound machine that picks up the faint signal from your baby’s heartbeat. This can be done as early as ten weeks with most monitors, and there are some more expensive models that detect a heartbeat even earlier. Some of these monitors also provide a digital display of the heartbeat.

This means that you’re not only getting to hear the beating of your baby’s heart, but you’ll also get a graphical representation of what the heartbeat is physically doing. This helps keep the mother’s stress levels down significantly while allowing the baby to grow healthier.

To use a baby fetal monitor, you‘ll need some kind of gel. Most monitors come with a packet of gel that’s to be used to help the monitor find the baby’s heartbeat. This gel can actually be just about anything that has a gel like quality to it. A lot of women use petroleum jelly and some use lotion with their monitors. Of course, it’s much better if you use the gel that comes with the monitor and purchase more of this gel when you run out.

You should know that fetal monitors present no risk to your baby at all. These are basically the same monitors that your doctor use when you go in for an ultrasound, although they have the ability to get an image for you to see and the home monitors usually don’t. If you really want to see the picture as well as hear the heartbeat, you‘ll need to spend a decent amount of money for a higher tech fetal monitor.

But you can get the pictures when you visit your doctor and get the sounds whenever you want with a home based model. Either way, it’s comforting to be able to hear your baby’s heartbeat at your leisure and to be able to share that experience with others.
