When you are ready to file an insurance claim, you must be sure it is filed properly in order for everything to go smoothly. One thing to remember is that not all accident need an insurance file claim filed. When an accident occurs and those in the accident were injured the police should be called, as well as provincial limits such as the $1,000 limit in Ontario. When an accident does occur, the vehicles should be moved out of the flow of traffic to ensure more damage is not done to any of the vehicles. All individuals involved in the accident should share information regarding their insurance companies along with other details such as vehicle identification, names of all those involved in the accident, the badge numbers of the police officers, and the names of any emergency technicians. If possible, take pictures. Police officers will have a driver information exchange form, which can be given upon request. This will ensure that all the pertinent information is exchanged. If there were witnesses, it is important to also write down their names and addresses. All drivers in an accident will need to contact their insurance companies to file a claim. You should contact your insurance company as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more difficult it may be to gather the information. You must remember to disclose all information as it can cause more problems later when other information is discovered. Of course, you will need to get your vehicle repaired. Do not have your vehicle fixed unless you are given the go ahead from your insurance company that they will pay for the repairs. Once the repairs are finished, be sure they are fixed before you leave, and then check again, when you get home. There may be other problems discovered later or during the time, the vehicle is being repaired. Be sure that your insurance company will pay for these as well. Your insurance company should be able to help you find repair shops in your area. It is truly easier for you to take your vehicle to a company that the insurance company has used in the past.
