The Dallas Cowboys today announced that Adam "Pacman" Jones will be released after one season with the team.
The announcement comes a few days before ESPN plans to air a story that Pacman arranged for someone to shoot two Atlanta-area men shortly before he was suspended by the NFL for his legal troubles.
The release is of no surprise, and Pacman was likely gone even if this story was not going to air.
But the decision opens the door for more. Terrell Owens is due about $9 million in 2009. If the Cowboys were to release him, it would cost them $680,000 more to do so, but they'd avoid the $3 million signing bonus he is due this summer. But Jerry Jones' accountant might think otherwise because he'd lose the $9 million and have no player to show for it. Keeping Owens at least guarantees some production.
