Police said a 40-year-old Hamtramck woman abused two of her children, including putting her 4-year-old daughter in a hot oven.

Reyna Valentino was arraigned Wednesday in Hamtramck District Court on two charges each of torture and first-degree child abuse.

The Detroit News reported Hamtramck police Detective Ben Bielecki testified the 4-year-old girl told officers her mother "cooks me like a turkey in the oven."

Police also said Valentino beat another child with a metal bar.

Bielecki said Valentino called 911 to say she was harming her children.

All five of her children, who’s ages range from nine months to nine-years-old, are in foster care.

Randy Valentino, the suspect’s husband, said she is a good mother, but has suffered from a mental illness for nearly 20 years. Detectives in the case said the children do not want to go back to their mother.

A preliminary exam is set for Feb. 12. Valentino is in jail and has requested a court-appointed attorney.
