Even though motorcycle accidents share similarities when it comes to traffic accidents, motorcycle accidents are typically far more severe than that of car or truck accidents. One of the most important things for any rider to remember is the fact that motorcycle accidents can and will happen. Hopefully it will not happen to you. In order to help keep you safe, read up on some of these great motorcycle safety tips to help you get you, your bike and your potential passenger ready before you even hit the road.

For Before you Ride

• It may sound sill, but read the owner’s manual. The majority of motorists on motorcycles and in vehicles tend to overlook the owner’s manual and only refer to it when the time comes for its need. Reading the manual ahead of time will keep you in the loop about specific features, bike maintenance and much more.

• Inspect your tires. As one of the most important aspects of your bike, it is vital that the surface of each tire is examined for any signs of cuts or foreign objects. In addition, check for the tire pressure using a quality gauge (avoid the ones you find at gas stations as they may not be accurate).

• Examine all of your motorcycles’ controls. Cables are typically very strong and rarely ever break, but it is still important to check for any signs of kinks or stiffness.

• Check your motorcycles headlights, brake lights, turn signals, horn and mirrors.

• Observe the oil, fuel and coolant levels of your motorcycle.

• If your particular motorcycle utilizes a chain-driven rear wheel, be sure to check the chain for proper levels of tension and for any signs of wear and tear.

• Inspect the side stand and center stand of your bike to ensure that they fold and stay up.

• As you roll off on your bike, be sure to thoroughly check your breaks to ensure proper functionality.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a motorcycle accident, be sure to contact a specialized Temecula motorcycle injury lawyer at Sweeney, Sweeney & Sweeney.
