U.S. authorities have arrested an immigration officer on an indictment accusing him of having sex with an 11-year-old boy in Brazil and bringing pictures of the boy into the United States.
The U.S. Attorney's office announced Friday that 44-year-old Michael Clifford of Hull was indicted on one count of using a child for sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing pornography. Clifford, a deportation officer for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement service, faces a detention hearing Tuesday.
Brazil issued an arrest warrant for Clifford last April. Paula Grenier, an ICE spokeswoman, said Clifford was then placed on administrative leave while U.S. authorities investigated and later was placed on non-duty, non-pay status.
An attorney for Clifford did not immediately return a message after business hours on Friday. A telephone listing for Clifford could not immediately be found.
