Oman Tourist Destinations for Splendid Holiday Tour

Oman, officially called the Sultanate of Oman is an Arab state which is situated in Middle East. Omanis are very helpful to tourists and are very friendly in nature. Oman is famous for its historic forts, desert dunes and beaches. Oman tourist destinations attract many tourists every year.

Muscat is Oman's capital, also known as it's financial and trade centre attracts so many visitors that it has become one of the hot spots of the Middle East. It the site of Sultan's main palace and is basically an old port area. Muscat is home to two old Portuguese forts, Jelali and Merani. It has many beautiful beaches like Qurum Beach, Bandar Al-Jissah and Yeti. You can also visit popular parks and public gardens such as Riam, Qurum Natural Park and Kalbouh. Muscat is in fact one of the major Oman toursist destinations.

Salalah is the largest city of Southern Oman known for its unique charm of banana plantations and coconut grooves which grow right to the water's edge. It is home to many beautiful white sand beaches, fresh water springs, fertile plains and tropical landscapes. You can also visit Tomb of Prophet Omran and Nabi Ayoub (Jacob) Tomb which is housed in a small domed building surrounded by the green hills. Salalah is one of the important Oman tourist destinations.

Nizwa is another place of attraction where you can buy exclusive silver jewellery and craft items from its bustling souq. This souq is situated next to the Nizwa Castle. It is home to about 90 afalaj, Falaj Daris is the most important among them.

Oman's shores are known for attracting sea turtles. The Dimaniyyat islands and Ras Al-Hadd are the turtle breeding reserves. Dimaniyyat islands and Hallaniyat islands are known for their unusual hard and soft corals, and beautiful colored tropical fish. Musandam is the northern most part of Oman. It is also known as "The Norway of the Middle East". Some popular places of attractions in Musandam are; Strait of Hormuz, Khasab Fort, Jebel Harim Mountain, Shim Gulf and Qadah Archaeological site.

Samhuram is an ancient city which is well fortified and dates back to 3000 B.C. It was a principal port in ancient times. The ruins of this city show that it was built to withstand attack by land or sea. These historic ruins and monuments make Oman tourist destinations really unique and spectacular.

Omani cuisine is a mixture of Asian food staples and basically revolves around fish, mutton, chicken, and rice with mixture of herbs and spices. Khawa is an Omani coffee which is made from freshly roasted ground coffee mixed with cardamom powder. Omani Halwa is a sweet and sticky gelatinous dish which is made from eggs, honey, spices and brown sugar. Shuwa is a special Omani delicacy prepared on special occasions. It is basically a whole cow or goat which is roasted for almost two days in a special oven prepared by digging a pit in the ground.
