New Orleans police arrested a man who confessed to killing his own mother for money to buy narcotics, according to Public Information Officer Gary Flot.

Police arrested Tony Declues and booked him with first-degree murder after he confessed to killing his mother.

73-year-old Louise Declues was found stabbed multiple times Saturday afternoon in her home in the 1300 block of Cambronne Street. Flot said that detectives questioned her son and, within hours, 52-year-old Tony Declues confessed to the crime.

Police booked Declues with first degree murder.

Neighbors said Saturday that Louise Declues was well known and well liked.

"It's a huge blow to our community,” said neighbor Tilman Hardy. ”Not only because of the fact that we lost a life, but a very, very, very important, key member in our community building."

Hardy, who serves as president of the area’s neighborhood association, said the last few months have been tough, as neighbors have been through this before.

"Just a couple months ago there was a murder in my block. Seven months before that, there was a murder on my block,” Hardy said.

As crime scene investigators scoured the area for clues, one man marked the scene of this latest killing with one of the signs used in Friday's citywide anti-crime rally. It's a symbol of frustration with the ongoing violence plaguing this neighborhood, and the rest of New Orleans.

Hardy and others are left grasping for answers.

"She was just such a sweet, genuinely caring person,” Hardy said. “That is what's really confusing to me, and to the members of the community and the family. How could anyone do this, to such a genuinely caring person.

"This is just really difficult for us right now. This is very difficult for us."
