Lubrication system is important to reduce friction between moving internal parts of an engine. This system is essential to cool the engine and it could be seen that this principle is applied in many day to day equipments starting from watch to refrigerator. Mechanical devices operated over 200 years ago used Lubrication systems in its working. This clearly shows that it is one of the working factors in any engine. And now, we would step into automobile and look how this system makes a car function effectively.
Oil, oil based or chemical based lubricant is the main constituent of any lubrication system. It keeps moving and lubricating vital parts of engine such as pistons, connecting parts, springs, lifters, and anything that need to be lubricated. This controls friction between metal parts and subsequently lowers the temperature of engine. Since friction between the moving parts is controlled, the wear and tear property of metals last longer and increases engine’s durability. Absolutely Oil is responsible to control friction, cool engines body and surpass by products of fuels like silica and acids. This means that good lubrication system is essential to run engine better. The oil is stored in two different ways, wet sump and dry sump. In wet sump, there is an oil tank from which oil is pumped out using a dipstick. In dry sump, there is an additional storage sector for oil besides primary oil tank and it can be located anywhere yet connected to the primary tank from where oil is pumped to engine parts. Selecting the best lubricant oil is must and many of them simply buy any oil and start using it. This is completely wrong and you must be aware of the oil you use in the car. Oil required is also based on the climatic condition. In summer it needs thick viscosity while in winter the viscosity must be thin. This is due to the fact that temperature affects the flow of the liquid. Normally Viscosity is represented in terms of weight i.e. light weight or heavy weight oil. Follow manufacturer’s instruction to choose the best oil. Violating this instruction may risk you in terms of warranty cancelation in case the engine malfunctions. Oil used in the old car may not meet the requirements of new cars. Hence avoid using old stock oil.
Some may opt lubricating addictive for engines. This is not necessary since they cause only damage and do not provide any improvements in engine performance. Always check your engine dip stick and don’t let oil to cross the minimum level. Once the minimum level is crossed, there may not be enough oil to pump out and supply to all engine parts. Hence ensure the level of dipstick while servicing. All these circulation is essential to maintain good condition of engine. Oil loses its golden brown color as soon as it passes through the dirt and subsidies of fuel and this doesn’t mean that it lacks proper functioning. The polymer compound eventually loses its ability to lubricate and hence fresh oil should be replaced once after a certain period of time. Follow usage of good lubricant oil for your car bearing these factors in mind.
