Online articles are everywhere. They number in the billions with thousands of new ones appearing every day. With more and more companies and individuals charging fees for online content, it might seem like the day of the free article is numbered. After all, time is limited for most people. They want quality information and they need it fast. In a world where you can pay a subscription to get what you want, when you want it, why would you spend time searching online? Here are some good reasons.

Because Free Is, Well, Free
Free is great. We know it, and businesses know it. That's why many places offer loyalty cards and promotional deals. Specials like "buy one, get one free" are extremely popular. Most people are looking to save money and they prioritize their spending carefully. Given the choice between paying $39.00 for an online subscription to a newspaper or reading the same news at no cost on a popular website, the choice is easy.

Plenty of Answers
While it's true that some prestigious or popular sites charge a membership or subscription fee, there are still plenty of free articles online that offer the same information. There are even directories that will search databases for them. These databases can guide a reader to literally millions of articles on everything from economics to earaches. Whether you want the latest headline news or a list of the top ten songs of 1979, almost everything can be found online.

Quality Information
More than with most other forms of research, online articles do need to be examined with a critical eye. The possibility exists for finding false or inaccurate information. While this is more likely to occur in a free article, the two are not mutually exclusive. Many free online articles are from reputable contributors such as universities, doctors and official organizations. Not only is such information free, it comes from trustworthy sources.

Free Articles Can Still Generate Revenue
Maybe you're a writer who has built up an internet presence. You're trying to decide whether you should start charging your readers a subscription fee. Although some people who read your work might be willing to pay, there's a good chance many won't. But there is still a way to keep articles free and make money: by advertising. Companies will pay for you to put ads for their products or services on your site. You make money, they make money, it remains free for readers. Everybody wins.

There may be no such thing as a free lunch. But there is such as thing as free online articles. People look for them, read them and like them. And they, like the internet, are here to stay.
