Most people have had the creativity of God squashed in their lives through various damaging experiences. Perhaps is was being ridiculed about something creative they had done or even seeing someone else ridiculed for their creativity and allowing fear of the same redicule to hold back the creative flow. It may even be as simple as being subjected to years of left-brained education which focuses on rational thinking and tends to discourage creative thought.

Thankfully, there are a number of things a person can do to restore this creative flow. These include:

1. Become born again (i.e. re-uniting with the Spirit of God). True creativity flows from God. Without being born again, we are cut off from God and His creative flow.

2. Renounce the idolatry of rationalism. Western society is obsessed with rationalism. Human reason is exalted over Godly inspiration. We need to return to allowing God’s Word and movement to rule our lives.

3. Pray for God to healing your heart and mind from the damage done to it through rationalism. God hears our prayers and will bring healing to your heart.

4. Ask the Holy Spirit to flow within you. Creativity flows from God. We can ask the Holy Spirit to flow once again within us.

5. Learn to honor flowing thoughts and flowing pictures. For many, their rational upbringing hinders or even completed prevents the flowing thoughts and pictures from the Holy Spirit. We have become so fixated on rational thought that we do not allow creativity to flow freely.

6. Learn to approach God by becoming skilled in combining and utilizing the four keys of spiritual intimacy.

7. Learn to step from imagination into divine vision. Often times we can initiate a vision from God by first picturing images in our minds. This engages the right-brain and disengages our left-brain allowing God’s creative flow to begin.

8. Learn to expand the flow through recording or journaling. As soon as we begin receiving God’s creative flow, our rationalism wants to stop and examine what we are receiving to better understand it and verity it is from God. By recording or journaling we can record what we are receiving and allow ourselves to continue to receive it knowing that we can come back later and examine what we’ve recorded to better understand it and verify it is from God.

9. Learn to submit the flow to two or three peer counselors. It is good to share what we are receiving both as an experssion of faith and to put it to the test and allow other people verify if it is from God.

If you find yourself having lost the creativity of God and want to reconnect, all is not lost. You can be restored. By following the above steps you can reconnect to God’s creativity.
