It was a crime that shocked the community -- a man and two teenagers allegedly plotted to kill a middle school student because she was too "annoying."
Seth Woods, 20, was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, WLKY-TV reported.
His female co-defendants were 13 and 14 years old.
Woods told police they came up with the idea but that he never planned to go along with it.
"I'm kind of a third wheel. I thought they were joking," he said.
Woods told investigators he just has a weird sense of humor, and never thought anyone would die in April of last year when police learned of a plot involving Woods and two young girls to kill a 13-year-old student.
WLKY obtained Louisville Metro Police's case file on the matter. Witness statements show the group plotted to kill the student because "she talked a lot and was annoying."
Woods said he first learned about the idea through e-mail. The methods ranged from stabbing to suffocation, and even included potential poisoning.
Woods told police in a recorded interview one of the girls suggested burying the body in her back yard.
"It wasn't much of a better idea," Woods told detectives. "I wasn't planning to actually do it."
Detectives said they didn't buy Woods' story, but last month he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of terroristic threatening.
Woods had never been in trouble with the law before and will have the charge expunged if he stays out of trouble in the future.
"I'm really sorry it got this far," he told detectives.
A witness said it appeared Woods was serious and threatened that witness if he didn't help with an alibi.
As for his juvenile co-defendants, Kentucky laws prevent WLKY from accessing their case files and knowing if their cases have been adjudicated.
