A move proves the perfect time to reduce the amount of junk in your life. Moving allows you to easily take stock of your belongings, putting aside items as you pack that you no longer want or need. Then, before the big day, you simply call a junk removal San Diego company to come and take them away. Follow these five tips for making junk removal a part of your next move and achieve for a much lighter load on the moving truck:

1. Designate an area in your home for the junk removal pile. The area must be easily accessible by both you and the junk removal company. A garage works best, and it should have the room you need. If it doesn’t, make it the first part of the home you sort through and pack up, so it can serve this important purpose.

2. Go through your home room by room. As you pack, sort your belongings into three piles: items to keep, items to donate and items designated as junk. Pack the items you plan to keep into moving boxes, of course, and place the items you plan to donate into open boxes, crates or bags, so you do not mix them up with the moving boxes. Bring items the junk removal company will take to the designated area in your home.

3. Check your junk removal pile for prohibited items. While most Junk Removal San Diego companies make every effort to take all of the items you want gone, none are licensed to carry and dispose of hazardous materials. Such materials include paint, chemicals, solvents, oils, asbestos and oil tanks. You will need to contact your city waste department for instructions on their disposal. Common items most San Diego junk pickup companies do take include appliances (air conditioners, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, drying cabinets, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, water heaters, trash compactors and microwaves), mattresses, furniture, carpet, TVs, computer equipment (including monitors, power cords, mice, laptops and printers), yard waste and general rubbish. They will also typically take any tire a two-person team can lift, including bike, truck and construction-equipment tires.

4. Make an appointment for a no-obligation quote. At least two weeks before moving day, choose a junk removal company that offers free quotes and make an appointment. That way, if the price it quotes is too high, you still have time to contact other companies.

5. Meet with the junk removal San Diego company at the appointed time. Or, many junk removal companies will allow you not to be on the premises if you agree to provide price approval and payment over the phone during the appointment window.

About the Author:
Mary Brown recently began blogging about her experiences as a new step-mom. She contends that it’s the role modeling that frightens her the most. In a recent effort to role model the importance of recycling, Brown relied on the services of the leading Roswell junk removal service, 1-800-GOT-JUNK?. When possible, the team recycles, and donates items to charity.
