When the weather gets hot, most of us head to the outdoors to enjoy the summer breeze and the warm rays of the sun in picnics, cookouts, hiking and fishing, boating and a wide variety of summer outdoor activities. Little do we know that while we are happily enjoying the outdoors, the sun poses a threat to not only our skin, but our food as well- there are a number of food safety threats that are present when temperatures get hot. The hardest task of all when the weather is hot and you are outdoors is keeping cold food cold. For short trips or outings, custom coolers or ice chests do the trick.

Custom coolers are inexpensive and lightweight and do a wonderful job in keeping cold food cold till the time it is ready to be eaten. Coolers are generally made of plastic but an increasingly popular material that is taking the cooler world by storm is fiberglass. Metal is also used and most of these materials are sturdier, and it is also a little bit heavier.

Custom coolers come equipped with various add-on’s that make carrying, transporting and storing food easier. One of the items that have been added to the cooler is wheels. Wheels are generally added for bigger coolers and are great for picnics and cookouts, where you need to carry quite a lot of food and drinks. Having wheels makes it much easier for transporting. If you have a big family and do a lot of picnics and family gatherings, investing in a cooler with wheels is a good way to go as transporting doesn’t become a chore.

Smaller custom coolers are installed with shoulder straps. These straps enable you to strap them unto your shoulder and it is convenient for taking your meals and drinks to the office, workplace or school. While waiting for the bus, or standing in the commuter, you do not have to carry the coolers as you can carry it with your shoulder. Medium sized coolers are also come with a strap which enables you to carry the coolers by holding it or just strapping it on your shoulders.

Other than that, custom coolers also come with trays to help you organize your food and drinks. You can arrange your dry foods in one tray, meat and vegetables in a different tray while drinks will stay put in another tray. For smaller coolers, there are different compartments where you can place your drinks and another compartment to keep your food so when you are on the move, the drinks do not spill and your food doesn’t get mashed up in all that moving.

When buying coolers, you can invest in a medium sized cooler for short trips and a large sized one for those family outings and cookouts, or camping and hiking adventures. The size of your cooler solely depends on how often you use it and how much stuff you would bring in it. Smaller coolers are essential for work and school to keep food stay fresh for a limited period of time but not for long hours.
