Virupakasha Temple is considered as the oldest temple in Hampi. This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva stands on the south bank of river Tungabadra. Virupaksha Temple renovated in sixteenth century by Krishnadevaraya is also known as Pampapathi. Decorative stone works on the walls of temple and a pair of cow horn like projections on the top of temple depicts the traditional temple architecture of ancient times.
