Anytime you’re refinishing or repairing your car or your wheels, the first step is to pat your car exterior dry and check for rough and uneven surfaces that may be present. You can never tell if the curb where you bumped into has ended up creating a dent or a small elevation around the area where the scratch occurred. Aside from being an unpleasant view to look at, these uneven surfaces can even cause injury when these surfaces come in contact with your skin or somebody else's skin. To immediately address this problem, you may have to use sandpaper to even out the surface. To determine what degree of sandpaper roughness you will need for this project, try to assess the severity of the damage that your exterior obtained. The simple rule for this step is: the more uneven the damage is, the rougher the sandpaper that you will have to use. Because your car exterior will eventually react to your sanding as you continue to smoothen out uneven surfaces, you will have to switch to sandpapers with less roughness. This is for you to obtain a more grained finish that is, by far, more suitable for the paint stick than when you decide not to do this step. Notice, too, that this is somehow similar to performing wheel repair of minor damages. This may also apply to other parts of your car that needs restoration from minor scratches. The next step you will have to do is to apply paint stick to the damaged part. You should keep in mind to focus on blending the color of the paint with the rest of the surrounding parts to produce a camouflage-like effect. There are also some cases when the paint stick or any other types of paint will not perfectly blend with the color of your car exterior. Your best bet for this is to try to mix two different shades to produce a shade that matches the color of your car exterior well. If you do not have the time or the patience to do this, you may just opt to choose the shade that nearly resembles the color of your car exterior. If you are not sure on how to apply the paint stick to your car surface, follow the instructions indicated on the label of the product. Aside from guiding you easily, this can also help you avoid more waste of time by having to start over again. In case that you committed a mistake in applying the paint stick on the car surface, you can make use of paint thinners. These are easily accessible and can be bought from hardware stores. For this project, the paint thinners will serve as erasers in case you are not satisfied with your own work. If you are used to using these substances, this can also help you even out the paint color that is immediately surrounding the scratch marks. However, this may take you a long time before you can master this method. This technique is not especially helpful for wheel repair. The final step is to wait for the paint to dry up. This may take around 24 hours before you can tell yourself that it is finished. If you are impatient and you try to wheel out your car before it completely dries up, this may ruined your work, thus requiring you to spend another chunk of your time doing another wheel repair.
