I have felt, for the past several months, that the Lord is leading me to prepare myself and my family for emergency situations. Aside from any possible spiritual possibilities, the multitude of natural disasters in recent history such as the floods in the middle of the US, the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, various hurricanes and typhoons, and even the recent snow blackout in New York, are all enough to make one think about the need to be prepared for an emergency.

What Should You Be Prepared For?

There tend to be several common issues that often occur during emergencies that we should all be aware of.

- Power can be out for days or even weeks

- No access to clean water for days or weeks

- Grocery stores running out of food and being unable to restock. It isn’t usual for grocery stores to run out of supplies after the forcast of severe weather even before the emergency has happened.

- No heat / air conditioning (usually due to the lack of electricity)

- Limited to no access to medical services / supplies

How Should You Prepare?

This has been something that has been something I have felt the need to do for the past several months. I have also met several other people, while on the road, who felt a similar need. We want to be prepared for our and our family’s safety, but also so we can help others during these times of need. With all the people I’ve met who felt the same way I did about this, I thought this might be something a lot people (like you) might be thinking and that you might be interested to know the steps the Lord is having us take to prepare.

1. I purchased a water purifier. I found a good one on Rick Joyner’s survival website. Of course you will need to have a source of water as well. I happen to have a creek runing through my property. If you don’t have easy access to water, look into ways to store water such as saving milk jugs or filling up a tub and always have a few gallons ready in case there is no warning for the emergency.

2. I also purchased an “E-Pack” from Independent Living, which I like to call our “Bug-out Pack”, so if you have to leave your home in a hurry, you have everything you need. It’s also helpful to keep in your car in case you get stuck in your car in a snow storm. Believe me. It happens more often than you’d think.

3. I picked up a battery operated “Colloidal Silver” Home Generator. Colloidal silver is used by NASA as a water purification system for its space shuttles and it has hundreds of medical applications (use against pathogens including virus, use on burns, etc.)

4. You may also want to get some Gold and Silver coins. These may be able to be used for trade and they aren’t a bad investment right now anyway.

5. I bought some freeze-dried food from Shelf Reliance. It lasts for 25 years, has no preservatives and, best of all, it tastes good as well.

6. We laready had a gas powered generator for our home and some stored gasoline to power it. Consider all the things you use, including heat and air conditioning, that require electricity. A generator is essential.

7. If you have a fireplace, make sure you have some wood stored up. You can use the fireplace for heat and cooking. If you don’t have a fireplace, consider getting a wood brurning stove. If the emergency lasts a while, you may run out of gas for your generator, but you can usually find wood.

Our trust is in the Lord. He is certainly our ultimate Sustainer and Provider. However, he also gives us the ability and knowledge to prepare for emergencies. Consider Joseph and his preperations for Egypt. If you haven’t felt the leading fo the Lord to be prepared yet, pray about it. I sense that now is the time to be getting prepared. Don’t Wait!
