Do You Want to Be an Estate Administrator

The field of estate administration isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sometimes a career can actually sound glamorous, like a garbage man being called a sanitation worker or a housewife being called a domestic engineer. That's why you need to find out about your chosen career before signing up for employment.

If a man or woman passes away, the court appoints an estate administrator to oversee the distribution of the estate. An administrator is required whether a will exists or not. Of course, not having a will makes the administrator's job a good deal tougher, especially since a lack of will means the introduction of a probate court.

Another part of the administrator job is to settle any outstanding debts. If this means that part of the estate has to be liquidated to pay the debts, then it needs to be done.

This means an estate administrator must stay impartial at all times and in just about every situation. If the administrator does not stay impartial and a dispute over the estate breaks out, there is a real problem, especially if that dispute results in the court of appeals. Appeals court could take years to complete, though hopefully you won't be stuck in that predicament.

So think things over. Don't just jump into a job in estate administration right now. If you'd prefer being the good guy, then you should definitely stay away from this field. Usually the estate administrator takes on all the frustrations of the deceased person's friends and family. On the other hand, if you are the stoic type, then this could be a great fit for you. The choice is yours.
