Different types of catfishing baits

Catfish eat almost anything and they are generally scavengers. It is easy to catch this fish using any simple catfishing bait. But there are some special fishing bait that can help you to catch the fish carefully. Generally catfishing baits can be categorized into natural baits, live baits, dead baits and static baits.

Natural bait

Worms are one of the best natural fish bait but unfortunately every fish likes it and they get attracted quickly towards worms. But you can use lobworm on your hook to attract catfish. Mussels which are available in fresh water are best bait but also keep in mind that they attract other fishes like tench and carp.

Leeches are good fish bait and they can easily attract catfish and generally they are available as medicinal leeches which helps to attract fishes of larger size. Maggots can also be used to catch big cat fishes as they easily get attracted towards it.

Live baits

Live baits are one of the best ways to catch fish, but the weight shouldn’t be beyond2 to 12 ounces. If you are planning to catch fish of large size then you can use a live bait of a higher Live baits include rudd, tench, perch, carp, eel, breem, etc.

Dead Bait:

Every good cat fisher must have dead baits in their bag. Generally cat fish has a strong sense of smell which means it can easily attract any bait even from long distances. A small live fish can be caught and then killed and used as bait. More fresher the bait the more easily you can attract the catfish.

Some of the fresh water dead baits which can be used include rudd, salmon, pike, etc. You can also buy fish from local shop and use them for fishing.

Static Bait:

Static bait is good to catch catfish. You can also use liver to attract large fish. Liver of any animal including pig, lamb, ox and chicken can be used. Kidneys and hearts of animals are also an effective way to catch the fish. Blood released from these organs easily attracts the fish

Luncheon meat and sausage can also be used to attract catfish and you can use the bait based upon the type of fish you are catching.
