Catfishing is a hobby for most people and is fun for youngsters looking to spend their vacation or weekend. There are 3 main species of catfish and the most common of them is the Channel Catfish. The Flathead and Blue Catfish, species can grow to a very large size. Catfish present in channels often eats trash diet including bugs and dead fish. They also survive and grow well in ponds. It is easy to catch catfish in ponds and flathead catfish is well known for its voracious appetite. You can catch the catfish using some bait which can attract them easily. But on the other hand it is difficult to find Blue catfish and this is primarily due to its eating habits.

If you are planning a catfishing adventure, make sure you follow the two common techniques to catch catfish. If you are planning to catch Blues and Flatheads then you should try using a medium sized rod which is equipped with bait casting reel. Treble hooks are also needed as these fish can pull off the bait from the hook with single point. Treble hook is designed in such a way that cats cannot easily take your bait. You can quickly take them out once the hook is inside its mouth. Smaller catfish can be caught using the ultra-light fishing equipments. These are a good choice to quickly catch your favorite fish. It is good to use more than one pole while fishing for small catfish, and with a few lines in the water there are high chances of catching more catfish. Before you start fishing allow the lines to get soaked and also make sure that the drags are loose on the reels. You should know that when the drag starts moving off then it means the fish has been caught, a small catfish can swim even when it is hooked.

It is easy to catch cat fish if you provide more time for the bait to get soaked. You can also attract the fish towards your target by putting things like cornflakes, dog food, sweet corn, etc. If you are planning to catch a monster fish, it is good to go for fishing during the dark. Fishing can be tricky if you’re a novice, but, with regular practice the skill can be mastered.
