Designing your custom calendars is no easy feat. It is not just about trailing 12 images together and adding those monthly tables. If you want to get great looking calendars that people will like, you have to plan out your designs and be deliberate about the specific elements that will be part of it.

To make this whole process easier on you we have created this list of steps. If you just follow the planning and design steps for calendars below, it should be easy for you to develop a good and truly customized design that is ideal for calendar publication.

1. Ascertain the specific goals of your calendars. The first step to properly planning and creating a calendar design is to figure out the specific goals of those calendars themselves. There are many different reasons and goals why people actually print custom calendars.

Some print calendars to sell, others print calendars as marketing tools. Some people also print custom calendars for actual functional use in their work, while others just want to do it for fun. It is very important that you specify for yourself all the goals that your custom calendars will have to achieve. This will become the guiding principle as you choose the different design elements of the calendars themselves.

2. Identify and research on its target market. Secondly, you will want to identify and research about the calendar’s target market. The target audience for your custom calendars of course will be a big consideration when you try to compose your designs. You should know their preferences when it comes to calendars, as well as their likes when it comes to visual prints.

Your designs should always match what those readers will like to ensure success with these calendars. That is why you should try to identify the key target market for your calendars and research about their likes and preferences when it comes to visual print media.

3. Look at what others are doing with their calendars. Reviewing what others are doing with their calendars is also an important step. Knowing how other people approach these designs will help you create your own specific designs that are distinct and more original looking. It is best to know about this as early as possible so that you can direct your creative efforts properly, without copying those common type designs that other people are using.

4. Choose a good and appropriate calendar template. Lastly, before you actually dive into designing your calendars, you should make sure that you choose a good and appropriate calendar template. There is no one calendar template. There are tons of different standard variations to watch out for. Make sure you choose a template with the right size and shape that will help you achieve your goals and project the proper theme.

5. Brainstorm on your main theme. Now, then with everything ready, you can start brainstorming on your main theme. Depending on the goals you set and the tastes of your audiences, it should be easy for you to determine which is best and gets the most readers.

Make sure you develop several versions of the theme so that you can at least have options to compare and see. It is good to consult with other people as you decide on your theme so that you can at least get some feedback on what would be more appropriate to you.

6. Create several design drafts. Once you have a theme, it will be time to create the design drafts. Using the best concept themes that you decided earlier, try to flesh out your calendar designs by using a design software application. Create several drafts if possible so that you can also see how those other alternatives will really look.

7. Test out and finalize for printing. Once you have the drafts ready, present them to your colleagues, friends and family. Test them out and ask them what do they like best. Get their feedback so that you can figure out the strengths and weaknesses of the designs. Choose the one that they like best f course, and finalize that for calendar printing.

So those are the key planning steps for designing calendars. You should get a more robust and effective designs if you follow this kind of process.
