A student at Ann Arbor's Huron High School has died a week after she was beaten and left in the snow.
Family spokeswoman Shelley Steele said 17-year-old Anna Maria List was taken off life support Tuesday after she was declared brain dead. Her family carried out her wish to donate her organs.
List's boyfriend, Dominic Deangelo Oyerinde, had been charged with attempted murder in the attack. Prosecutors tell The Ann Arbor News the 20-year-old now will be charged with a more serious crime. He is due back in court Jan. 27.
List never regained consciousness after she was discovered Jan. 13 near a park in Ypsilanti. Police say she suffered a blow to the head with a hammer or other object.
Oyerinde was taken into custody in Detroit Tuesday evening after he was found driving List's van. He was arrested near his brother's house, police said.
Local 4 has learned Oyerinde has three prior charges. Two of the charges stem from allegedly assaulting the victim and one is a drug charge from September 2008.
Oyerinde has not yet been assigned to a public defender.
