Once you get engaged and start planning your wedding, you’ll have lots of decisions to make. You’ll be choosing the venue, deciding on the band, picking menu items and the cake flavor, and most importantly you’ll be searching for the perfect wedding dress. You’ll look for a wedding gown that immediately catches your eye, that is the perfect design and fit, that makes you look even more radiant and beautiful than you already look. It’s an important choice and so you need to make it all by yourself, not depending on the opinions of others, because it’s you who has to love the dress and feel great in it, not your mother or your best friend.

When it comes to picking out bridesmaid dresses, however, the situation gets a bit complicated. You’re the one getting married and so you have to love the bridesmaid dresses, but your friends have to love them as well or otherwise they’re going to have a problem spending a whole day and being photographed all throughout the ceremony and the reception in dresses they don’t care for. On the other hand each bridesmaid knows her body best, realizing what her best features are and what areas should better be hidden. And that means if the bridesmaids are allowed to choose their bridesmaid dresses, they will find designs that look best on them both fit and color wise, making for a beautiful and happy bridal party. They’ll choose dresses they will feel pretty and comfortable in, and that will result in them smiling instead of sulking in the wedding photos.

Who should pick the bridesmaid dresses then? There is no one right answer, but there is a wise suggestion that can make it easier for many brides and bridesmaids. Instead putting just one party in charge of choosing bridesmaid dresses, make it a team effort. When you go shopping for your wedding dress, invite the bridesmaids to come along, so they can take a look at the bridesmaid dresses offered at the bridal salons. Make your friends a deal, that they can choose three different designs they all agree on, but you’ll have the final say as to which of those will become the bridesmaid dress for your wedding. That way your friends will end up with dresses they love, you’ll end up with happy bridesmaids in pretty dresses, and you’ll all save up a lot of time and effort taking care of all the wedding dresses at once.
