Web presence today is not a great idea of a large manufacturing company’s big boss or CTO. Internet has revolutionized the concept of IT for small business. Today, it is more a must for a small business than the big fishes of the domain. Customer already knows the big players and if he wants to do business with them, he has a number of channels thanks to the media and advertisement budget, brand building and a focused able specialist marketing team. But for small biz players, customer may never know them even if they can deliver same or better product or service almost at half the price.

Word of mouth and organic growth were the only channels for small players before the .com era. Today, it is not so. A website has opened up the global marketplace to every business. So when the small business players in Glasgow are searching for terms like “Web design Glasgow” or “Web Design Company Glasgow”, it is of no surprise.

The challenge however for a business who has little to do with IT is to build a cutomised software solution best suitable for it keeping in mind the budget and technical knowledge inventory or lack of it in mind.

Since 2004, a number of Web design companies in Glasgow have emerged in the marketplace. While technically almost all of them can do the job, many among them rely on conventional software development approach.

A conventional software development starts with clear and frozen customer requirement, followed by design and implementation. This model demands a very high maturity and vision clarity both for customer and vendor.

The conventional approach has proven its limitations time and again in today’s changing business environment. The IT companies, particularly the big players however are reluctant to accept the fact.

Today, the web design Glasgow Company also adopts a different approach of iterative development. The approach is derived from the latest software development methodology called agile development. In agile environment, requirements evolve as the development progresses rather than documenting everything at the beginning and freezing it.

If you take a look at their web design methodology, you could get what I am talking about. They outlined the development methodology as simple steps like:

1. Competitor Analysis – Analyses and identifies the business use case and vision. Note that it is not a requirement gathering in classic SDLC sense.

2. Planning – With clarity of vision, the next step is to identify a solution – what type of website is needed, features, shopping cart etc and cost estimate for the same. This is again an example of feature based approach rather than technology based approach.

3. Final design – This is the actual development of the web site. Notable point to mention here is the flexibility as they mention to incorporate any change(s) during development.

4. Implementation – The final stage. The implementation and SEO submission to complete the cycle.

As web is becoming a de-facto standard for small businesses, it is interesting to see the success of agile development methodology in web design particularly for a web design company Glasgow.
