Is there anything more relaxing listening to water trample over itself in streams, ponds and shores while you cast off your line into the water and wait for your catch to come and take in its bait? California, being one of the busiest states in America, also has some of the most amazing fishing options to offer for visitors and residents with nearby and exclusive RV camping. The state of California is covered with lakes, ponds, rivers, streams and especially the ocean that are filled with opportunities to pull in that prized catch to mount over your fireplace.

Before you head out to fish in California, make sure that you have the right fishing license and permits in hand. Most California fishing licenses can be purchased and printed out online or at their various locations, but their fishing licenses are not universal. Because of the vast amount of fishing types there are, the State of California has different permits for commercial, non commercial, sporting, ocean, crab, shrimp, lobster, swordfish and many limited licenses for water craft and types of special fish. Be sure to obtain the right permits and licenses or you could be facing a very hefty penalty.

The beach is not always the viable option to run to for fishing for many reasons including location, a non fishing area, high traffic, or simply permission of fishing. The good news is that California is covered with over 200 major lakes throughout the entire state that range in landscapes of mountains, deserts and beaches.

In eastern California, the Sierra Nevadas create a high elevation terrain suitable for RV Campers with abundance of beautiful scenery, hiking trails and most importantly fishing. In particular, June Lake is an ideal place in eastern central portion of California (close to the Nevada/California border in the Inyo National Forest) to hit up for trout season opening in April. June lake also feeds off into many different creeks and canyons which will make a great opportunity to switch to fly fishing if need be.

Just north of June Lake how could anyone pass up the opportunity to fish at the renowned Lake Tahoe? Sharing this lake with neighboring Nevada, Lake Tahoe also has an abundance of Trout species such as rainbow, Lake, Brown and Kokanee Salmon. At Lake Tahoe, it’s not rare for these fish to grow as big as 15 lbs and even more interesting they are self maintaining and require no human stocking. Tahoe is filled with places to Park your RV and because the lake is split between two states, a California or Nevada fishing license will work anywhere on the lake.

When driving your RV along the coast of California, there are so many places to pull in for some up-close and personal RV camping on the beach. RV camping on the beach is exactly where you need to be if you’re looking for a saltwater fishing experience. If you have your own boat ready to launch, you can ride out and cast off for some deep sea fishing prizes. The California coast has Salmon, Sea Bass, Halibut, Striper, Cod, Tuna, Barracuda, Marlin and Albacore to name a few. If you don’t have a ride to the sea, there are hundreds of boat chartering companies that you can arrange to have taken out for an afternoon of fishing or even whale watching. With over 840 miles of coastline in California, it would be hard to miss such an awesome fishing opportunity.

With all of the natural resources of fishing in California, there are also some manmade beauties that are definitely worth a visit. In southern California, Lake Cuyamaca was a result of the Cuyamaca Dam built in 1888. This man made lake holds a 4 millions gallon capacity and is stocked with Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Perch and Catfish. This popular lake is also a hotspot for photographers, so much that a permit is needed in order to take pictures. There are plenty of places to park your RV at the lake as well as neighboring cities such as Julian, California which also hosts free fly fishing classes every Saturday. Don’t pass up this breath taking fishing spot if you’re in the area, you will not be disappointed.

Wherever your California fishing and RV travels may take you, the Golden State will provide a fishing opportunity within reach of you. With 10 California locations and countless agents, getting the permits and gear for your California fishing trip will be a breeze. So check out where you can cast off on your next California RV camping trip and be ready for excitement and relaxation to the max!
