Green Lake is a small freshwater lake in Washington, and is inside Green Lake Park in North Seattle. It is a beautiful lake, and its surface area spans about 260 acres. The lake is fed by storm runoff, rainfall and the Seattle municipal water supply. The entire lake is encircled by a very popular paved path, and it is consistently used by joggers, bikers, dog walkers, rollerbladers, and an assortment of people looking for exercise or relaxation.

Green Lake has an extremely varied range of wildlife, including ducks, geese, loons, herons, cormorants, eagles, osprey, hawks, turtles, squirrels and frogs. The lake is also stocked with fish for recreational fishing with mostly rainbow trout, but also including carp, largemouth bass, perch, yellow bullhead and even catfish.

Spring is a particularly special time for Green Lake Park. The west bank of the park is covered in pink and white cherry trees, and when they are in bloom it is breathtakingly romantic. In the center of the island is an artificial lake, named Swan Island but more commonly called Duck Island. It is off-limits to people, being a wildlife sanctuary meant to encourage the breeding of the local swan population. The Green Lake Crew is a public rowing team that uses Green Lake for practicing, and there the Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club also have their headquarters

The neighborhood around Green Lake is a very popular one. Its centerpiece is the lake and the park surrounding it, and the people that live around it commonly take full advantage of the recreation it offers. There has been considerable redevelopment in this neighborhood since 1995. Most houses have been enlarged or updated, and many had upper floors added. The types of homes in Green Lake are extremely varied, and people looking to relocate can find anything from a cozy, single-level home to a grand mansion. There are condos in the Green Lake neighborhood as well, and their type and aesthetic are varied as well.

The culture encompassing this neighborhood is family-friendly and eclectic. The shops and restaurants in Green Lake are funky, affordable and classy. Some of the best restaurants in this area include Kisaku, a highly popular Japanese restaurant, and Beth's Cafe restaurant, a local classic that has been featured on the travel channel, Seattle Weekly and Evening Magazine. Citysearch says that Beth's Cafe is a “'Green Lake icon that's been serving hearty breakfast fare to hungover 20-somethings since 1954.” They serve breakfast all day, and are famous for their 6 and 12-egg omelets. Have some classic pub fare at the ever-popular Latona Pub, a cheery, neighborhood tavern, where you can enjoy some micro-brews and chat with friends. Eat some truly fresh seafood at the romantic Bluewater Bistro, the perfect place for a date or a night on the town. With an ambiance that is friendly, active and community-oriented, the Green Lake neighborhood is the perfect place to live for anyone looking for a great Northwest experience.
