Capitol Hill is the most densely populated neighborhood in all of Seattle, and is a delightful contradiction that the city is proud of. While Capitol Hill is the center and heart of Seattle's counter culture, it is also home to the most opulent and wealthiest of Seattle residents. So while the most unusual and eclectic collection of people, stores and restaurants call Capitol Hill home, so do the grandest. “Millionaire's Row” is on 14th Ave. E, just south of Volunteer Park.

This neighborhood is just a jaunt away from many huge Seattle attractions. It is just a short walk or drive northeast from the heart of downtown, and is incredibly close to the University of Washington. The bus system on Capitol Hill is wonderful, and many students of the University or professionals that work downtown choose to live here and take advantage of the wonderful transit system. The Cornish College of the Arts is right in the heart of Capitol Hill, reinforcing the appreciation of the arts that is so rampant in this area. Because the enrollment is under 1,000 people, this college only accepts the highest quality art, music and theatre students. Capitol Hill features a true blend of Northwest natives; the working professional mingles with the art student, the millionaire with the musician. The economic range is astronomical, and makes for an aesthetic that is varied, utterly unique and highly coveted.

When relocating to Capitol Hill, one has a variety of options. There are a plethora of historic homes that blanket the area, sprawling 19th century monoliths and true Victorian architecture. They lie nestled on quiet, tree-lined streets, yet are located just blocks away from the bustling center. There are even homes designed by Fred Anhalt featured in this area. However, smaller homes and condos closer to Broadway give residents more affordable options, and put you right in the action and nightlife of this neighborhood. Brand new condominiums are springing up all over the place, offering a modern, and even futuristic aesthetic for the 21st century professional.

The nightlife is hard to beat on Capitol Hill, as are the restaurants and ranges of shops. Capitol Hill truly has some of the best Vietnamese, Nepalese, Thai, Mexican and Italian restaurants in all of Washington. There are some truly famous coffee shops, and the widow shopping options are grand.

Capitol Hill is also a musical haven. It was the center of the grunge scene in the 1990's, a genre that was born in Seattle. Today, the music scene has transformed and blossomed, and lovers of jazz, salsa, hip hop, folk, punk and electronica can find venues and reflections of their genre reflected anywhere. Lovers of the theatre will also be satisfied; with the Erickson Theater, the Annex Theater and the Balagan Theater, there is plenty to see on any given night. When taken account with the local bars and taverns that line the area, nobody can state that Capitol Hill is stagnant. There are no shortages of activities in this neighborhood, and just about any taste is catered to.
