If you frequently use your chainsaw, you are aware that maintenance is important for the proper functioning of the machine. However, many people simply ignore the importance of regular maintenance.

The chain of the chainsaw is one of the most important components of the machine and needs to be regularly inspected. Regardless if you are an occasional or professional user, it is important to properly maintain it in perfect condition. Thus, you will not just considerably extend the life of the chainsaw, but it will also minimize the chances of any accidents.

A dull chain can be extremely frustrating. Keep in mind that with some simple and regular inspections, you can eliminate the cause of your frustration. Here a few chainsaw chain maintenance tips:

1. In the case of a dull chain, you’ll observe that sawdust like chips are formed and experience lack of bite of the chain.

2. If you are a frequent chainsaw user, it is highly recommended to examine the chain on a daily basis.

3. The chain needs to be sharpened as soon as it becomes dull. To avoid the risks of accidents, check your manual when sharpening the chain. A well lit area should be used, ensuring that the tension is adequate to avoid the chain moving around. It is also recommended to wear protective gloves.

4. The right file size should be used, according to your type of chain. If you are sharpening the chain yourself, make sure to take it to a professional after a few sharpening sessions, to make sure you have correctly performed the maintenance procedure.

5. Regularly check the lubrication of the chainsaw. It is best to check it whenever you refuel the machine.

6. It is also very important to make sure that all other components of the machine are in proper working order. Proper maintenance of the fuel system, engine, air filter and pull chord are absolutely essential.

There are some things you should and what you shouldn’t do with your chainsaw:

- Avoid hitting hard materials when cutting as with that you neutralize the effects of proper maintenance.
- Tension and proper lubrication should be regularly checked.
- Avoid forcing the chainsaw to cut if the chain is dull. It is in your best interest not to force it. It is extremely risky not to mention the potential damages to your chainsaw.

Although the chainsaw is a very dangerous tool, keep in mind that it is still a delicate machine, which requires adequate maintenance and care.
