There are a few things to keep in mind when you are buying property in Costa Brava. A Costa Brava holiday home is something special and you need to make sure that you get the right property when you are looking for property in Spain.

Since Costa Brava is on the coast of Spain you have to be aware of things like the materials that the window and door frames are made from. If they are made from wood they may swell and warp and you may find that windows get jammed shut or that doors will not close properly unless they are treated with fair regularity. Aluminium or PVCmay not look quite as pretty as wood but it stands up to the rigours of coastal humidity a lot better. If the holiday home in Spain that you have set your heart on does not have the correct material in its window and door frames then you might be able to negotiate the price down a little as you will need to have the correct window and door frames.

Most people who are looking for real estate in Costa Brava will have boats and this means that they need a jetty on their holiday home. The jetty needs to be big enough for the boat or at least have the space to expand to a size that will accommodate the boat. A mooring that is too large is not really a problem as the boat can still fit into the mooring space. If the jetty is too large then you will have the bow or stern sticking out into space that may belong to the neighbouring jetty or property. It is also very costly to extend a jetty properly if the bottom of the sea at that point is rather shallow or if there are any other factors that make simply extending the mooring difficult.

You also need to consider how much maintenance will need to be done on the property in Spain. Since you will not always be in the house it will most likely be staying empty for long periods of time. This means that there may be maintenance to be done each time you go to your Costa Brava property. If there looks to be a lot of maintenance then you might have to get a care taker to stay in the house to keep things ship shape while you are not there.

Of course things like the number of bedrooms, bathrooms and reception rooms also have to be considered when you are buying property in Spain as a holiday home. You do have a few other extra things to take into consideration over and above these when it comes to a holiday home. You may want to consider real estate in Empuriabrava or Roses or some of the other areas in and around Costa Brava but the principles remain the same. Make sure you take the time to be sure that the property in Costa Brava you purchase as a holiday home is what you need it to be.
