A new survey released by life insurance provider Friends Provident has revealed that over half of adults in the UK want to carry on working beyond retirement age.
The research found that more people wanted to stay active as long as possible, with 47% of those who completed the survey believing they would become bored once they retired. A further 43% said they would value the social interaction they get from their job.
The Visions of Briton 2020 by Friends Provident report concluded that the ageing population in the UK are now in better health and have more energy than previous generations.
The research also identified that by the end of this decade, it is expected that 51% of those working in voluntary jobs will be over 60, providing a vital contribution to society.
Trevor Matthews, Chief Executive of Friends Provident, commented: “People are living longer and this new breed of energetic and healthy individuals want to remain involved and not become economically inactive.”
