The Truth About ObamaCare

I have been deeply disappointed with most aspects of ObamaCare, both in the legislation itself and the manner of its passage. Congress will attempt their traditional short term fixes, cutting reimbursement, restricting coverage and access, and blaming the greedy doctors and drug companies, which will delay the final denouement. It is very difficult to understand exactly what it is that congress tried to do with this health care reform. The politicians only wanted to understand the bill to the extent that they could sell it and get votes. More than half of the U.S. states challenged the liberal Democrats’ “ObamaCare” law in federal court, asserting the law’s mandate requiring all citizens to buy health insurance is unconstitutional.

Even though the healthcare legislation has long since passed and litigation been initiated in the federal courts, there is still a need to go over the constitutional issues that are present in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The supporters of the bill made many promises including increased coverage and lower costs. Major news outlets supported these goals, and backed the bill without fully understanding that the legislation will not actually do what it has promised. Now that the bill is law, the ramifications are becoming clear, even the NYT is beginning to realize that their political zeal is not enough to change the laws of nature.

They claimed to want to lower the cost of health care with this new legislation. This legislation will not accomplish that feat, but it will help a lot of people. The main problem with the health care system is that some people cannot getcoverage if they are sick. This only happens if Americans try to get coverage on their own because if they get coverage with an employer, they automatically get coverage . If ObamaCare stands, it will take a few years, but you will lose the opportunity you now have for excellent medical care. It’s just a simple fact that government cannot run a nationwide health care system as well as the free market can (it’s been proven everywhere it’s been tried), and the ultimate losers will be the patients.

Another argument that has been made by the Obama Administration in court is that the individual mandate is a tax and a not a penalty. This is interesting because when the PPACA was being debated in Congress, the overwhelming consensus was that this was indeed a penalty and not a tax. In fact the Obama Administration said in public that it was a penalty and not a tax.

Changes needed to be made to the health care system. These changes are going to cost a lot of money, and nobody really knows how much it will cost. Nobody knows how much the extra benefits will cost either. So while people will get a subsidy from the government, there is no guarantee that the cost tothe individual even with the subsidy will be less than they are paying now. But that is what the politicians who passed this bill expect.
