Cougar Is On the Decline, Please Save Them

Despite such big natural habitat, American Cougar is on the declining lines. Why? What is the biggest challenge? The biggest challenge is the habitat loss and fragmentation. If talk about the solitary creatures and their territory, the male’s territory is estimated to extend from 25 to 1000 square kilometres. Female territories are smaller as compare to this. The male cougars can share their territory with their female counterparts but never with male counterparts.

Unfortunately, cougars are not the sole predators in their range. They have to struggle with their lives constantly by fighting with the black and brown bears. In the worst cases, when the territory overlaps, they find it harder to make it possible with the grey wolves. South is no safer as well; panthers are waiting for them there. In case of a conflict, cougars tend to lose more than others which is disappointing.

Misperceptions are always wrong...it is true. Despite the fact that cougars rarely attack humans or livestock, they are attacked on the high by the media people. Media is found so enthusiastic over these issues that the moment they get incident on this, they freak out. This increases the fear in the minds of people. A sense of secrecy and majestic is incorporated in the minds of people.

I am feeling sad to say that government and welfare associations are biased too. The World Conservation Union does not provide any protection or assistance to these cougars tagging them under the status of “least concern”. I am not in the favour cougar hunts.

It is not always essential and important to kill the animal for you adventurous purposes. Sometimes, you should be sensitive towards what you are doing. The animals which are on the declining line must be spared. The heritage of such animals must be maintained. Try leaving some animals at times to their own routine. You might feel taking into consideration their feelings.

Only a few countries have taken the initiative to ban the hunting of cougars. They include California and Florida. What about others? There may be case that others get inspired or in another case, they may remain insensitive for their lifetime. You may like to hunt them following your passion. In that case, look out for hunting guide who can help you out doing it successfully.
