A woman who allegedly paid for a laptop computer with counterfeit cash may get a surprise visit from the Secret Service.

The woman, 29, left a copy of her drivers license with a security guard at the victim's apartment complex.

David Williams said he insisted on cash in his craigslist ad to avoid any potential problems. "There are so many scams on craigslist with money orders and cashiers checks," he explained.

But Williams' caution did not prevent him from accepting $360 in counterfeit bills from the woman who bought his IBM Thinkpad late Friday night. He discovered the cash was bogus when he tried to buy a bus ticket the following day.

Then Williams remembered that late night visitors to his apartment complex are required to leave a copy of their drivers license with a security guard in the lobby.

Williams provided a copy of the woman's license to Sacramento police and the Secret Service.

News10 visited the address on the license and was told by the man living there that he is divorced from the woman who bought the computer and that he doesn't know where she is.

News10 is not identifying the woman because she hasn't been charged with a crime.
