Every bride wants to be beautiful and perfect on her wedding day, and the right dress plays a big role in achieving that great effect. Brides can spend long hours searching bridal boutiques and websites, trying on numerous designer wedding dresses and vintage gowns only to come up with the one that takes their breath away. However, many brides can’t see past the beauty of the dress and forget about functionality, which makes them end up in a dress that although gorgeous is not very comfortable to dance around in or to sit down and rest. That’s why it’s very important to move around in the dress before buying it so you can be sure you won’t have to hold a stiff pose all day long, but there are other practical aspects you should pay attention to as well.

There are hundreds of options when it comes to designer wedding dresses, and that is very good news, because depending on where your wedding is going to take place, you might want to alter your take on the dress that is right for you. Obviously you have to love it and be comfortable in it, but it’s reasonable to remember that a different dress will work at the beach and a different one will be ideal for a big, elegant event.

Whether you take a look at the moves or bridal magazine spreads, a beach wedding is typically the least formal event possible. Because of the sand pretty much everybody goes barefoot, and so an elaborate dress with lots of fabric just seems out of place. Not to mention that the more fabric and the longer the gown, the more sand it will collect. A simple, laid back dress is the perfect choice for a beach wedding as it allows plenty of movement and is light and comfortable so walking through the sand is not going to be too much of a hassle.

A more formal yet still somewhat laid back is a back yard wedding where the dance floor and the tables are set up under the canopies, the bride walks down the grassy aisle and everything gets decorated with sparkling Christmas lights. This kind of wedding allows a wide choice of designer wedding dresses as you can go very simple or very chic and still not feel out of place. Just remember that you’ll be shimmying over the grass so you might want to be careful about any trains, very long, rich hemlines or stilettos, as you might end up foot deep in the ground and with a green rim around your dress.

A very formal event indoors, especially if planned for an evening, is a perfect opportunity to choose a princess inspired ball gown or a very intricate, embellished design. Since you won’t have to worry about the sand or the grass, you can play with lots of fabric not only for your dress but also your bridesmaid dresses, so that floor length is the theme. The only thing is that you’ll still want to dance and move around the room, so the dress can’t be too long or you’ll end up stepping on it, and it shouldn’t have too big of a train unless you want at least one of the guests to step on it for you.
