Are you building your own website and looking for a way to host it? There are various different ways to host a website online and get it in front of an audience, so here’s an overview of them. Read on, to find out what’s best for you and how you can get started with web hosting, fast!

Free Hosting

If you’re making a personal website which is likely to experience low web traffic, then free hosting may be a nice option; it’s something a lot of ISP’s can offer. The down side to free hosting is that the technical and customer support is not likely to be strong. Plus, customisation and technical specifications will be limited too. Also, you may not be able to use your own domain name with a free web host – domain names such as freehostingprovider.com/yourname/ are common. It’s not as professional to have a domain name like this, so if your site is going to be used for a small business or even charity, maybe this isn’t the best option to make the best impression!

Virtual Hosting

Want affordable hosting that will allow for your own domain address? Virtual hosting on a share server is a cheap option that means you share your web storage space with other website owners. This server is called virtual private server . These shared servers often include other features such as email, editing options and an easy to use database. This option is good for websites that will track a medium amount of web traffic in particular small-medium businesses, blogs and bands sites! Shared virtual hosting providers will usually provide excellent support too, which is great for those who don’t have much website/hosting experience when it comes to behind-the-scenes.

Dedicated Hosting

Do you have a medium-large business and are expecting a heavy flow of web traffic to your new website? A dedicated server could be the best option for you, although the most expensive. You can expect secure and powerful service which is effective for sites that use a lot of specialised web software and programmes. You’ll need a little specialist knowledge to make the most of the dedicated hosting interfaces but you can find a lot of support from dedicated hosting providers.

Collocated Hosting

A collocated hosting service will let you put your own web server on the locations of a service provider. It’s similar to running a server from your own office but it placed somewhere that is better designed for the job. It can be pricey to run a collocated server and it can be harder to set-up and debug! The security of your own collocated server can be worth the extra costs and the unlimited options for software solutions is very beneficial. An ISP providing a collocated server will often offer protection against vandalism and fire.

Do any of these hosting set-ups sound suitable? Get online and get in touch with a web hosting provider and find the web hosting you need fast. Plus, they usually have easy-to-use interfaces too.
