Trade shows are must-seized marketing opportunities. They provide the time and venue to connect with existing and potential customers, get immediate feedback about the product or service and even close a sale. These are the kind of events that companies really prepare for – surge of business cards printing or custom business cards, budget for display exhibit booths and other visual displays, and formulation of other marketing activities.

A lot of companies have succeeded in tapping their market through these shows. There are many factors involved in these trade shows. It is not enough for a company to put a display and just sit and wait. There is more to be done.

Create a Strategy

A company should identify the objectives of attending and participating in a trade show. Is it to increase sales prospects or to immediately seal business deals? Is it about launching a new product or service or highlighting the benefits of an existing product or service? Once the objectives are set, the company can formulate a strategy that ensures a call to action from the customers during and after the event, which will lead to sales inquiries and conversion.

Clarity in Message

It is a sin for a company to assume that its customers need not be educated about how its product or services can address a particular need. In a trade show, it is crucial that the booth signage and all the display elements clearly and concisely convey the core message of the company’s strategy. It should keep the space clean and leave enough room for customers’ appreciation of what it is really trying to sell.

Cost Effective Giveaways and Promotional Products or Service

A company adds pulling power over its target audience if it walks the extra-mile by handing out tangible items that are beneficial to them. These items need not be expensive. What is important is that they have perceived value to them. The company just needs to make sure that these items are of good quality and bear the company’s logo or name for branding purposes.

Brochures, Flyers or Business Card Hand Outs

The customers should not leave the company’s booth without any of these marketing collaterals. These should contain all the information about the company’s product or service including the number they can call, an office or a retail outlet that they can visit or a website that they can browse for potential buys.

Professional Staffing

The company must present well-trained and knowledgeable representatives. They must be dressed accordingly or professionally. These are the people that will generate and secure the sales.

Capture and Follow Up Leads

The company should devise a way for the customers to leave their personal cards (with contact information) so that they can be included in its customer database. After the trade show, it can follow up on these customers for potential revenues or future reference.

The downside of internet is the people’s realization of reaffirming the value of human touch in doing business. Whilst e-cards and other online marketing tool served a purpose, business cards printing or better yet custom business cards (using a great business card template) personally handed out still saves the day. And with these trade shows, companies can fully take advantage of this realization because it gives them the chance to personally interact with their customers.
