Police said a Laconia man sneaked into a former girlfriend's house through an unlocked window, grabbed her by the throat and smashed her cell phone.

Police said Matthew Stark, 20, entered the apartment on Friday, got into bed with the former girlfriend and when she awoke, the two got into an argument. Police said Stark then grabbed the woman by the throat. She got away and made a call to a friend, but Stark grabbed her phone and smashed it, police said.

When the woman locked herself in the bathroom to escape Stark, police said, he tried to break down the door.

Stark has pleaded not guilty to charges of obstructing the report of a crime and felony burglary. He has pleaded guilty to criminal mischief.
