What is Vertical Gardening all about?
Don’t the rising price and the bland taste of vegetables make you wish that the good old days were back and you could cultivate your own, healthy garden vegetables?
Does the idea of picking your own vegetables and fruits fresh from garden and using them to make delicious dishes excite you the most?
But, unfortunately, did you have to drop the idea because you live in the city and don’t have a spacious backyard to plant any of your favorite fruit or vegetable?
So, how could you react, if you knew that your windowsills or your balcony can produce the same amount of vegetable and fruits that a spacious garden can?
Already scoffing at it thinking that it is impossible?
But it is true; with vertical gardening techniques, you can really grow your products provided you have a sunny place either on balcony, porch, alleyway or even a strip along a fence! This technique trains your vegetables to go up instead of going all around as they do in an open space.
The next question that will come to your mind is what this technique is and how does it makes your vegetables and fruits grow fantastically season after season?
It relies on the simple fact that plants depend on some basic things like light, nutrients and support to grow and when you provide them even in a small enclosed place, they will still end up producing a good harvest.
The thought that only large area can produce abundant crop has long been repudiated and today with the advancement of pots, irrigation and soil conditioners, a large area is not the only pre-requisite for plants to produce a bumper crop.
Today, science had provided us with ammunitions that can help us to carefully plan our garden, even if it can be as small as a milk jug, before planting a single seed and expect many pounds of vegetables.
Yes, you have to put in a good labor and will need time to master the theories, but with zeal and guidance, you will find yourself an expert after the first season itself with proud producer of good crop in your own small space!!
So give this technique a try and find yourself staring at entire walls with tomatoes, cucumber and other vegetables that you love to eat. When you taste them, they will taste much better because not only your own effort went in producing them but because they are fresher than anything you buy in the market! All these will become a reality thanks to vertical gardening.
Vertical gardening can really be a very fulfilling adventure. If you want, search the net for more information on the subject. There are quite good resources on it online, and you will soon find yourself proudly showing your guest a dish made from vegetables that you grew in your own balcony!
