A convenience store owner fired shots at a group of armed men who demanded money at his store on Monday night in Pembroke Pines, police said.
Three or four armed men stormed into the Stop & Go store in the 7700 block of Johnson Street and demanded cash. The store owner pulled out his own gun and fired several shots. Several customers and another employee were inside at the time.
A suspect was wounded in the leg, police said. The rest of the men fled on foot and in a black Pontiac Grand Prix with tinted windows, police said.
The wounded suspect was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment. Investigators believe a second man also might have been struck by a bullet, but fled.
A trail of evidence could be seen in the parking lot in front of the store. K-9s searched the ground as police helicopters conducted a search by air.
The store owner was interviewed by detectives, who have not filed charges. No one else was hurt.
